With Chromebook, the forecast looks increasingly cloudy
Google's new laptop offering stores your data only in the cloud.
It's being especially promoted to schools and businesses - with the idea of massive savings on storage, processing speed, and data security.
Data security is easier to manage if "all data and the operating system are in one off-site place; the data on each individual computer is not vulnerable to attack, theft or loss; possible threats could be easier to monitor."
The question then for buyers is whether Google has processes and safeguards that are up to standard, to ensure the security and preservation of this data.
The usual clarifications regarding ownership of data, responsibility for maintenance, access, disposal - still need to be ironed out in contracts.
However, these issues may be overlooked as organisations expect to outsource the responsibilities with the workload...
