Nedlands Library has, with other western suburbs libraries, installed Spydus as its library management software. The Archives module is part of the package but we can't see how it can help with the Local Studies collection.

Does anyone have any experience with it to share with us?

  • Hi Anthea,

My school library uses Spydus too and I have tried investigating the Archives module.

So far I have had trouble getting enough information about the structure of it to know if my data will "tip in" easily. I fear I will lose a lot of functionality, although there would definitely be advantages to integrating with the school's information system.

I too am interested in others' comments.

Anna (see below) has pointed out that we are the largest user of this system in NZ. Have a look at the link she has posted, but also feel free to contact me at garethw AT library.mstn.govt.nz. I am also happy to chat to you if that would help.

We are a library in a small community - 20,000 or so - but we have an extensive community archive and have found the product fits well with our needs. We also use the newspaper module to index our local newspaper.

  • Hi there

We are a former user of an earlier version of the archives module. It's designed very much around archives collections, and one of its strengths are that it allows hierarchical description, e.g. groups, series, items, pieces all connected in a hierarchy. This software was previously used by us (the Hocken Collections), The Alexander Turnbull Library and the Mitchell Library at the State Library of NSW to  manage large collections of archives.

The largest remaining user of the software in NZ is the Masterton District Library and Archive. Here's a link to their catalogue.
