ATOM DATABASE

Hi there,

We are looking into updating our records management system and have come across Access to Memory (ATOM). This seems to cover everything we have been looking for but would like to gain some real user feedback before committing to the program.

If anyone is a user of this software I would love some feedback into it's usability, suitability for school collections - including confidential files, its reporting capabilities, the adaptability of the program and any issues or problems you have come across.

Suggestions for other suitable databases are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I have sent you a friend invite as I would like to further discuss your use of AtoM.

  • Hi Jessica, I've been meaning to get in touch with you about our implementation of AtoM.  I'm not a techie, but fortunately we have some brilliant people here at UQ who looked after tthe technical end of the project.  From my simplistic view, the  transfer of our listings held on an old (circa1998) Access database to AtoM was relatively seemless.  Together with the IT people, fields in our old system were identifed and transferred across to similar fields in AtoM.  There is not much flexibility in the nomenclature the developlers use, however we were able to adapt as best as possible.  There are issues with sequential listing, but again, we've managed to adapt to this issue.  Overall we've been able to find our material, and it is very helpful to be able to easily produce a series listing using AtoM, plus you can attach images, which makes the appears look cool. I'm sure you have more questions, please fire away and I'll see if I can answer them.

    cheers, Bruce

  • Hi Jessica,

May I suggest you contact Maggie Shapley maggie.shapley@anu.edu.au or Sarah Lethbridge sarah.lethbridge@anu.edu.au as ANU Archives have had the longest association, and perhaps the most experience, with AtoM.

    Deb
