Video Tape Conversion

Hi everyone,

We have a large amount of VHS tapes that need to be converted to digital. Does anyone have a supplier they can recommend?

Many thanks,

Becca

  • Hi Becca,

I've used VideoLab in North Melbourne.  Not cheap, but excellent work!

    • Thanks Catherine and everyone for your helpful responses. This is a huge task for our Archives to undertake and I will document the process so I can pass on the info to other schools if needed ... it may take a few years though!

  • Hi Becca,

I have been using DamSmart in the ACT for a few years and have found them excellent. They have done work for the NAA and can repair damaged media too.

  • Hi Becca, I copied all my videos to VHS about 10 years ago just using an off the shelf video converter machine. It was very time consuming and I wouldn't recommend it. Although I could just pop the video in and let it run while I was working on soemthing else. But now I want to convert all those DVDs (about 500) to MP4 as no one has DVD players in their computers anymore so they are the new dinosaurs. It might be cheaper and easier for you just to pay someone to convert straight from video to MP4 file and by[pss the DVD stage as it is becoming as obsolete as videos. I am trying to get quotes from companies now. Cheers Leah

  • Hi Becca,

Would love to hear if you find out anything about digitising VHS tapes!! We also have a large amount that will need to be converted.
