Investing in Public Engagement: Opportunities for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA)

The NSW Branch Committee invites you to our next meeting, which will be held online. Please note it is necessary to register for this event.

The environment in which the NFSA collects and preserves analogue and digital media has changed dramatically since its inception. The way audio-visual media is created, disseminated and consumed has exponentially increased the demands on the NFSA’s capacity and capability, yet budgets, staffing and revenue models have remained largely unchanged. What is the case for public engagement in this context? What opportunities exist that might justify expanding our efforts to share the Collection? NFSA Chief Engagement Officer, Matt Ravier will talk about the risks and rewards in the NFSA’s journey to increase public engagement.

In 2005, Matt founded The Festivalists, a non-profit company dedicated to creating innovative engagement experiences to develop under-represented audiences for the cultural sector, which he ran for 11 years. After two years managing public programs at the Australian Museum, Matt joined the NFSA in 2018. Working as part of the Executive Team, he heads the branch responsible for public engagement with the organisation and the Collection: Exhibitions, Education, Public Programs, Digital Engagement, Marketing, Communications and Partnerships teams.
