In 2015, Broken Hill became Australia’s first Heritage Listed City.

This listing recognised the city’s significant role in the development of Australia as a prosperous country, its unique mix of architecture and mining infrastructure, its relation to the birth of the union movement and its early practice of regenerating the environment in and around mining operations.

The Broken Hill Outback Archives is the repository for a significant collection of items relating to all these aspects of the town’s history.

Archive Collection Project Manager Eileen Wright, and Library Coordinator Tracy Fraser will discuss the current two-year project that is focussed on migrating data from Excel to a professional CMS and undertaking an audit of the entire collection. They will also speak about the challenges of managing an archive in a remote location and the imminent move to a temporary location due to renovations of the library and archive.

Free but registrations are required via the ASA website: https://www.archivists.org.au/events/event/nsw-branch-aug22
