Are you involved or interested in disaster response and preparedness? Would you like to know how others have responded in the event of disaster?M&GSQ would like to invite you along to hear about two new initiatives for disaster response and planning and network over drinks next Thursday9 December from 2:00-5:30pm at the Level 2 seminar room, Museum & Gallery Services Queensland, 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley.Kay Söderlund, AICCM National President and Conservator from Preservation Australia, will outline plans for a national disaster response network, ‘HEART’ – Heritage Emergency Action Response Team. ‘HEART’ is an initiative of the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM).Christina Ianna, Conservator and Manager, Publication Reformatting at State Library of Queensland, will launch Q-DIS - The Queensland Disaster Information Network, a group hosted by MANexus to facilitate the sharing of information on disaster preparedness and planning. Members of this group can:•participate in discussions•ask questions about how their disaster planning process is progressing •raise problems hypothetically if need be •communicate on issues related to preparing for and surviving incidents no matter what their scale.Q-DIS aims to prepare and connect people working with cultural heritage collections in the event of a smaller or larger scale incident.Grant Collins, Manager of Collection Preservation at the State Library of Queensland and the Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the Disaster Plan relating to State Library collections, will be presenting current thinking behind revision of the State Library Disaster Plan.
