What is the digital humanities and what roles might archivists, curators and librarians play in its development? What new career opportunities are emerging? These questions will be addressed in a free public lecture by Dr Bethany Nowviskie, Director of Digital Research & Scholarship at the University of Virginia Library, proudly presented by the Digital Design + Media Arts Research Cluster at the University of Canberra. All welcome! Please RSVP online by 3 December.Abstract:Digital humanities communities – on local, national, and international scales – are rightly characterized as welcoming, collaborative, and interdisciplinary. Nonetheless, they operate within institutional structures that reify distinctions between service and research, staff and faculty. Dr. Bethany Nowviskie of the UVa Library Scholars’ Lab will discuss issues of labor, intellectual property, and the emergence of alternate academic career paths in the context of the digital revolution.
