The July 2011 meeting of the ASA NSW Branch will be held on Wednesday 20 July 2011, at the State Records NSW Seminar Room, Sydney Records Centre, 2 Globe Street, The Rocks, Sydney, at 5.30pm for 6pm.

This month our meeting has an Indigenous Records theme. Our guest speaker will be Michael Bennett, an historian working for NTSCORP.

The meeting begins with refreshments at 5.30pm (please donate $5 towards costs, we provide soft drinks, red wine, white wine, dips, nibbles,).

Then at 6pm our guest speaker Michael Bennett of NTSCORP will speak to us about native title research and how NTSCORP collates the data they collect. Their very interesting website is at: http://www.ntscorp.com.au/

Michael Bennett is the historian with NTSCORP, a Federally funded organisation which assists Aboriginal communities in NSW and ACT with native title claims.

He will be talking about the role of anthropological and historical research in native title claims and the unique and innovate ways in which NTSCORP stores and analyses the research data using genealogical software and a relational database (designed in-house by James Rose, anthropologist).

We usually finish up by 7.30pm.

There will be no Branch business meeting in July 2011. NB. Our last Business meeting was held on 15 June 2011.
