$150 for non-members; $125 for ANZSI members;.

For the reduced cost of training, join ANZSI Queensland Branch or your State branch. Membership forms for ANZSI are on the ANZSI website. An extended membership subscription from 1 May 2011 – 30 June 2012 at a cost of $80 is being offered for new members who wish to take advantage of cheaper indexing training. Membership includes a monthly Newsletter which gives articles from Branches, hints & tips about indexing and valuable details to guide new Indexers into the Indexing industry of Australia and New Zealand.

Database Indexing Workshop
Date 29 July 2011; Time 9am – 12.30pm
This half-day course covers indexing of items (journal articles, reports, conference proceedings, books, collections, etc) for inclusion in electronic databases. A session on pictorial indexing is also included. Practical exercises are supplied.
Particular areas covered include:
- Types of database indexes
- Indexing policy – materials for inclusion
- Database structure
- Purpose and types of abstracts
- Choosing elements of the article for inclusion in the abstract
- Use of thesauruses and selection of keywords
- Non-thesaurus terms
- Checking the entry
- Pictorial indexing
Participants are strongly advised to take both the database and thesaurus courses.

Thesaurus Construction Workshop
Date Friday 29 July 2011; Time 1.30pm - 5pm
This half-day course introduces participants to key concepts and steps involved in developing a keyword hierarchy.
Particular areas covered include:
- Why build a thesaurus?
- Basic relationships between terms
- Building blocks of a thesaurus
- Thesaurus development software
- Practical construction of a thesaurus
Participants are strongly advised to take both the database and thesaurus courses.
