Session 18c: Exploring the work of digital archiving: The implication of social media platforms in preserving Indonesian music as audio-visual archives in the era of streaming (Paper by Widiatmoko Adi Putranto, Adhi Wirawan Dwi Pamungkas, Isdiana Zulidha) Presented by Widiatmoko Adi Putranto During the last decade, there has been a significant emergence of online-based music archiving projects in Indonesia. Along with the rise of the independent labels and bands, music fans and prominent music critics found the need of an online platform which allows them to enjoy the music, exchange ideas and preferences, as well as get the latest news. The youtube channel called "Sounds From The Corner" (SFTC) was created with a sole purpose of archiving the live shows of Indonesian bands and musicians. In response to the new concept in digital archiving, this paper aims to examine the effectiveness of using a third party platform, particularly social media, in digital music archiving. The research is conducted by using qualitative approach by elaborating surveys, in-depth interviews to both founders and subscribers, and broad literature reviews to obtain holistic insights in concluding the result. This paper will look into the sustainability and accessibility of the platform, as well as the technical aspects, in order to provide a comprehensive picture and insight of the online-based music archiving efforts and other similar projects in Indonesia. By using a platform that is very popular among the users and society in general, there will not only be an increase in the appreciation toward Indonesian music, but the awareness to preserve them as valuable archives and to support the musician, as well. Recorded by Alan Milne in Astral 3, Crown Perth, Burswood WA, on Thursday 27 September 2018 as part of ASA 2018 'Archives in a Blade Runner Age: Identity & Memory, Evidence & Accountability.
