A panel discussion held on 11 September 2020 discussing areas of relevance to support and activate the Declaration in an Australian context. Speakers: Lauren Booker, Rose Barrowcliffe, Professor Sue McKemmish and Kirsten Thorpe Background: In October 2019, the International Council on Archives launched the Adelaide Tandanya Declaration in support of Indigenous priorities in the archives sector internationally. A theme for immediate action in the declaration was in regard to building new models of public archives that both respect Indigenous knowledge systems as well as provide a space for healing and remembrance for Indigenous peoples in relation to the ongoing impacts of colonialism. The declaration called on archives and archivists to support a remodelling of traditional archival principles in order to build ethical spaces of encounter and recognition without dominance, judgement and enveloping authority.
