Digital humanities communities – on local, national, and international scales – are rightly characterised as welcoming, collaborative, and interdisciplinary. Nonetheless, they operate within institutional structures that reify distinctions between service and research, staff and faculty. Dr. Bethany Nowviskie of the UVa Library Scholars’ Lab discusses issues of labor, intellectual property, and the emergence of alternate academic career paths in the context of the digital revolution.
