Dear Colleagues,

I wish to advise you that a fellow ASA member, Barbara Horton, has passed away.
Barbara Horton was a Professional member of the ASA since 1975.
A celebration of Barbara's life is to be held on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 2pm at the Macquarie Park Crematorium. Details below.
I was sent this sad news last Friday by Steven Miller, Head of the Research Library and Archive at the Art Gallery of NSW, who knows her family.
Steven wrote: "She had been battling cancer. She was a very helpful and professional person, who had worked at David Jones for years, and had battled hard (since it became a public company in 1995) to keep the firm aware of the importance of their archive."

I would like to publish some information about Barbara in the August 2011 ASA NSW Branch Newsletter: if any reader of this post knew Barbara, or knows more about her work as an archivist, please contact me, or post a comment. The David Jones archival connection is interesting, because Phyllis Mander Jones (after whom our annual Mander Jones Awards are named) was a great grand-daughter of the merchant David Jones.

BARBARAS family and friends are warmly invited to attend a Celebration of her Life, to be held
in The Magnolia Chapel of the Macquarie Park Crematorium, corner Delhi and Plassey Roads, Macquarie Park, Thursday (August 4, 2011) at 2 p.m.

I will attend this Celebration in my capacity as ASA Vice-President & ASA NSW Branch Convenor.
However, I am sure there will be archivists out there who knew Barbara who would like to attend? Please pass the news on to friends and colleagues as you see fit.
