Statement: ASA supports an expanded Commission of Inquiry into Integrity Issues in the Queensland Government

Australia's peak organisation for professional archivists, the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA), strongly supports an expanded Commission of Inquiry into integrity issues and allegations in the Queensland public sector. These issues have seen the recent resignations of the head of the Crime and Corruption Commission and the Queensland Integrity Commissioner, following last year's forced departure of the State Archivist, Mike Summerell.

The departure of three vitally important officers in Queensland's integrity ecosystem suggests that there are alarming systemic weaknesses in the integrity and anti-corruption safeguards that Queenslanders are entitled to expect are in place to prevent the State from returning to the maladministration that characterised Queensland during the 1970s and 1980s.
