THATCamp Canberra is a user-generated unconference in the digital humanities. It's one of a growing number of THATCamps springing up around the world, led by the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. THATCamps are not traditional conferences -- there are no formal presentations or Powerpoint slides. Instead the emphasis is on participation and collaboration. THATCamps are collegial, non-hierarchical, exciting, exhausting and fun.

From complete newbies to hardened coders, anyone with the energy to explore the possibilities and problems raised by the application of technology to the humanities is welcome at THATCamp Canberra. This includes academics, students (undergrads and postgrads), independent scholars, new media practitioners, curators, archivists, librarians, artists, hackers, developers, data-mungers and more.

THATCamp Canberra 2011 will include a digital humanities BootCamp on Friday 7 October. The BootCamp will provide an introduction to some of the tools, methods, technologies and standards used by researchers in the digital humanities. It’s a camp within a camp – a crash course to get you up and running, helping you to get the most out of your THATCamp experience.

A small number of BootCamp fellowships are available through the Center for History and New Media to help cover travel and accomodation costs. For more information, or to apply for a fellowship go to:

THATCamp Canberra is free, but sponsorship is welcome (and necessary). For a general guide to sponsorship opportunities see:

THATCamp Canberra 2011 is proudly presented by the Digital Design + Media Arts Research Cluster at the University of Canberra.
