New Director-General - National Library of Australia: Dr Marie-Louise Ayres
Congratulations to Dr Marie-Louise Ayres who was named today as the next Director-General of the National Library of Australia. Making the announcement, Minister for the Arts, Senator Mitch Fifield, said Dr Ayres has served in senior management roles at the National Library of Australia since 2002, including leading the development of transformative digital services. More recently, she has worked to increase the prominence of the Library's collection by leading its online archive, Trove.
Dr Ayres' appointment will start on 2 March, 2017. She will replace Ms Anne-Marie Schwirtlich, AM, who has held the position since 2011.
Senator Fifield thanked Ms Schwirtlich on behalf of the Government for her outstanding contribution to the direction of the National Library over the past six years.
