Information from Richard Neville, Mitchell Librarian; email 28 March 2014.
Dear Colleagues
Just a brief note to let you know of the status of changes to the Mitchell Library services on Monday, 31 March, 2014:
  • Special Collections cardholders will now be able to choose the option of having all their collection requests delivered to the Special Collections area in the Mitchell Library Reading Room, including printed book material from both the Mitchell Library and State Reference Library collections. We believe this arrangement will be of great benefit to those readers who need to use both primary and secondary materials together in conducting their research and will be of particular benefit to many in your organisations.
  • It is a straight forward process to opt-in and take advantage to this new service.  Readers are advised to speak with a staff member on their next visit to the Library, who will be able to answer any questions and change the pick-up location preference.
  • In addition, a new Reference Collection will be placed onto the shelves in the Mitchell Library Reading Room. The Reference Collection comprises a selection of key titles to support general research and reader interest in key aspects of Australia’s history and literature. The Mitchell card catalogues and the specialist Australian Reference Collection will continue to be available in LG2 of the State Reference Library, with trained staff at that location to assist readers.
  • We trust that these new services will address many of the issues you have raised with us. Please feel free to pass this message on to your members, and to discuss any aspect of it with me or my colleagues.
Regards, Richard Neville
