Heritage Library leaves Woden

The ACT Heritage Library at Woden will be relocated to Fyshwick with the aim of providing more local community learning areas.

Community groups will now have better access to public spaces with the relevant equipment for meetings and events.

Minister for Transport and City Services, Meegan Fitzharris said the Woden branch was the busiest public library in the ACT and relocating the ACT Heritage Library to Fyshwick would allow greater scope for library and community programming at Woden.

Relocation to free up spaces

In addition there will be an expansion of community accessible facilities available for hire at that site,” Ms Fitzharris said.

A total of $1.573 million from the Better Infrastructure Fund is being provided over two years to retrofit the existing ACT Heritage Library site into community learning facilities.”

She said the funding would also include a fit-out for the location for the ACT Heritage Library on Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick.

Ms Fitzharris said the ACT Heritage Library helped tell the stories of Canberra and its people.

She said it collected, preserved, promoted and provided access to the documents that recorded the lives of Canberrans at home and in the wider community.

Ms Fitzharris said the Library encouraged relevant donations to its collection.

Community rooms at Libraries ACT branches are open to hire for any groups or organisations.
