DTA steps up to data platforms

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has taken over management of the Government data platforms data.gov.au and NationalMap.

Announcing the change, Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation, Angus Taylor said housing the platforms under one roof was part of a streamlining approach to delivering high value platforms.

Mr Taylor said data.gov.au and NationalMap hosted more than 28,000 and 10,000 datasets respectively.

Agency takes control

The DTA works on many whole-of-Government solutions and it makes sense to roll over these data platforms which interact closely with work the DTA already does,” Mr Taylor said.

He said the Budget had allocated $15.2 million to continue development of the Govpass platform.

Govpass is now in private Beta phase, and we’ll be sharing publicly in coming months the benefits of this exciting technology,” Mr Taylor said.

Through Govpass, Australians will be able to easily and safely prove who they are when using Government services online.

A simple task like applying for a tax file number will be reduced from about 30 days to a matter of minutes.”

Mr Taylor said the Budget had also allocated funding to develop four additional platforms that could be shared across Government, including a Tell Us Once option, to allow members of the community to update their details just once and share the information with the Agencies and service providers of their choice.
