To respond to the devastating cuts to Library and Archives Canada, archivists, librarians, and allies across the country took a day of action on Monday, May 28, 2012, dubbed the Archivists’ On to Ottawa Trek. The trek has been modeled after the famous On to Ottawa Trek of 1935, which saw workers from across the country descend on Ottawa to protest government mismanagement during the Great Depression. In Ottawa, about 150 archivists and librarians protested recent government cuts with a march through downtown Ottawa and mock funeral for archival funding at Library and Archives Canada.
