Archives to review Government guide
The National Archives has launched a review of an information guide to Government services.
The Australian Governments' Interactive Functions Thesaurus (AGIFT) lists common terms to describe the business functions of Australian Commonwealth, State and Local Governments.
This makes it easier for people to find information across all levels of Government.
AGIFT provides standard terms for Government Agencies to describe their online resources.
This helps users to search Government entry points when they are not sure which level of Government has responsibility for the information or service they require.
This improves take-up of online services by making them easier to locate and access.
Services information update
The review will ensure that AGIFT remains a useful tool for the discovery of online resources and services.
Terms will be added to cover any new Government functions and activities and other changes will ensure AGIFT remains relevant and current.
Changes to the second edition of AGIFT will include an additional top-level function - Indigenous Affairs - drawing together terms relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It will also include changes to relationships between some terms to better reflect the functions of Government; and additional non-preferred terms to provide more natural searching for Government information or services.
Information and records management professionals are invited to participate in the review, with comments due by the end of March.
