The Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards recognise excellence and innovation in records management within the Victorian Public Sector. The Awards Ceremony is a prestigious event showcasing projects completed by Victorian Government agencies and community archives that truly reflect innovation and dedication to best practice recordkeeping and the preservation of records of permanent value.

On 24 June 2016, the Keeper of Public Records Justine Heazlewood, will present the 2016 Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards in a special evening ceremony at Queens Hall, Parliament House.

Please note: The Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards were not held in 2015. The 2016 Awards will  recognise outstanding achievements for both 2014 and 2015.

On 24 June 2016, the Keeper of Public Records Justine Heazlewood, will present the Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards in a special evening ceremony at Queens Hall, Parliament House.

The Sir Rupert Hamer Records Management Awards were established in 1998 as an initiative of the Public Records Advisory Council, to recognise excellence and innovation in records management within the Victorian Public Sector. The Awards Ceremony is a prestigious event showcasing projects completed by Victorian Government agencies that truly reflect innovation and dedication to best practice recordkeeping and the preservation of records of permanent value.

The 2016 Awards will introduce some new exciting changes to capture excellence in records management leadership, identifying projects that have succeeded in growth, created more effective processes for their organisation and have bettered productivity and performance.  

Award Categories

For 2016 we have streamlined the categories reducing them from six to two. For the first category, which can be nominated for, the winning projects will demonstrate innovation. It is possible to have multiple winners for this category. The second category cannot be nominated for, and will be chosen by PROV. This award will go to the project that provides the most outstanding transfer.

Winners’ Presentations

Winners will be acknowledged for their achievements at the Awards Ceremony and will also be recognised on the Public Record Office Victoria website and social media sites.

Keynote Address

We are pleased to welcome Stephen Mumford to deliver this year’s keynote address. Stephen is the Assistant Victorian Ombudsman and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Since 2000 Stephen has worked for three Victorian Ombudsman (constitutionally independent officers of Parliament) to undertake, oversee and contribute to numerous investigations. These have included systemic reviews of government programs, investigating allegations of impropriety by public officials and resolving citizen’s grievances. Stephen’s current responsibilities include leading the Ombudsman’s agenda to develop a data analytics capability, public sector education program and digital engagement initiatives. Stephen was a contributor to the Handbook of Global Research and Practice in Corruption (edited by Adam Graycar and Russell Smith) collaborating with Glenn Sullivan and Dr Inez Dussuyer to author the chapter Reporting corrupt practices in the public interest: innovative approaches to whistleblowing. He has also written and spoken about how a culture accepting of “workarounds” to circumvent internal controls can result in environments conductive to improper conduct. 

Nominations 

Agencies from all levels of Government across Victoria are eligible to nominate for the Award and can nominate more than one project.
