LGBT comics and cartoons in the Archives

8240991074?profile=originalThe Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives holds a wealth of comics and cartoons in the collection, including both published and original manuscript items, from Australia and overseas. These collections have been significantly supplemented recently through the donation of books and serials from Barry Lowe, Ken Hocking and Colin Simpson – covering comics as diverse as Anti-heroes and Brother to dragons, through to Watch out commix and Zahn, as well as the classic gay male erotic work of figures such as Tom of Finland, Harry Chess, Stephen, Etienne, Cavelo, Craig Esposito, Sean, The Hun, Jakal, Harry Bush etc.

Australian Comics, which not a feature of recent donated, are also prominent in the Archives’ collections, including works such as Kenton Penley Miller (Bent at the knees), Jeff Allan (Living with Adam), Brett Willis (Paradise Passage), as well as more recent works such as Sam Wallman (Being born is going blind; Fluid prejudice etc) and Jezza Smiles (Nathan and the Adonai) etc. Unfortunately the Archives is very light on Australian lesbian comics, though there are some fantastic works in titles such as LOTL (Lesbians on the loose) and Wicked Women.
