National Archives building in Canberra

Dear colleagues

Please see the notice posted on behalf of Elizabeth Masters, Media Liaison, Communications and Programs, at the National Archives of Australia:

National Archives not affected by Mitchell fire

The National Archives repository in Mitchell (ACT) has not been affected by the overnight factory fire in the suburb, reported in this morning's news. The National Archives repository is on the edge of Mitchell and some distance from the fire. The site appears to be unaffected but they are asking staff who normally work at the Mitchell building to remain at home until Monday.

However, the fire may affect researchers planning to attend the National Archives' reading room in Parkes (Canberra) today. Because archival records are stored in the Mitchell repository and transferred to Parkes for public examination, some may not be available today.

Kind regards,

Tatiana Antsoupova
