Arts Minister Simon Crean today announced four appointments to the National Cultural Heritage Committee (NCHC), including the appointment of current member and Museum Victoria CEO Dr Patrick Greene OBE as Chair.

"Dr Greene brings to the role of Chair a depth of expertise in national and international collections management. He will be joined by new members, Professor Janice Reid AM and Professor Andrew Reeves and Ms Avril Quaill, who has been reappointed," Mr Crean said.

"These people strengthen the highly skilled membership of the NCHC and ensure the Committee is well-placed to advise me on the protection of Australia's movable cultural heritage."

Professor Reid is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney. Professor Reeves is currently a Professorial Fellow at Monash University and Member of the Charles Darwin University Art Gallery and Collections Advisory Board. Ms Quaill is Artistic Director of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2011.

The Committee advises the government on the operation of the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Act 1986. Its functions include making recommendations on export permits for Australian cultural objects and on funding from the National Cultural Heritage Account, which helps Australian cultural organisations buy important Australian protected objects.
