DSpace

Has anyone any experience or views to offer on DSpace?

I am looking at ways to better enhance our digital photographic archive and make it more accessible to staff and researchers and DSpace was suggested by a staff member as a possible solution. My main concern would be ensuring security over editing rights and whether it can also be used within an intranet (for recent photos which we don't wish to be in the public domain).

Thank you

Caroline Lovell

  • Thank you all for your suggestions. I am looking into them all to see which, if any, will be best for my purposes.

  • Hi Caroline

The University of Adelaide Library has been using D Space for its institutional repository for several years now. I’m sure Digital Services Librarian Vanessa Barrett would be happy to speak to you about the platform.

  • DSpace is one of the main Open Source software packages used for institutional repositories in the academic library community. It sounds like it would be overkill for your purpose.

We've used Omeka (http://omeka.org/) to deliver image collections for researchers. It's Open Source and relatively easy to set up and install. They also offer a hosting service.

  • No, I'll take a look. Thanks
