Our colleagues in Australia and elsewhere who are in the habit of following the Aus Archivists listserv might be interested in the latest news on the legislative changes and restructuring of Archives New Zealand and National Library of New Zealand.
On Monday, the select committee reported back to the House on the Bill which merges these two institutions into the Department of Internal Affairs, with only minor changes. Even though the legislation has not yet been passed, however, the Chief Executive of the Department of Internal Affairs announced a few weeks ago the final decisions on the structure, confirming that the Chief Archivist and National Librarian will sit at third-tier management level under the Knowledge, Information, Research and Technology Branch.
