On behalf of the ASA Council, I convey sincere congratulations and a hearty thank you to the ASA/RMAA Joint Education Steering Committee and all who worked on the Tasks, Competencies & Salaries for Recordkeeping Professionals (TCSRP) project for a job well done.

Related articles have been published in IQ and this comprehensive document  SOK -Tasks Competencies & Salaries for RK Professionals - October 2010.pdf is also available on the open pages of both the ASA and the RMAA websites.  Available in both a PDF and Word version, the document can be used as a resource for recordkeeping professionals to develop position profiles, resumes and to match qualifications to work levels. Education enquiries about position statements and qualifications will now be able to be directed to this document and people will have the convenience of being able to ‘copy and paste’.

The TCSRP has already been put to good use as a key recourse document along with the Statement of Knowledge in the ASA’s submission to the Scoping Review of CUL04 Museum and Library/Information Services Training Package. With the current attention on workforce development and environmental scanning of industries, the information in this document will be of value to many.

Both the Statement of Knowledge and the TCSRP can be found on the ASA’s Website on the Education Standards page. http://www.archivists.org.au/education/educational-standards I strongly recommend you take the time to have a look.

  • Hi Margaret and Steve,

This is great to see this work by joint the RMAA & ASA committees in WA making a contribution to the profession. This was indeed the aims behind this effort, initiated by Dr Margaret Pember.

Margaret, I confirm that you have all the names of the members accurately reflected. The articles published in IQ (references provided in p6 of the TCSRP) provide background to this work.

    Regards,
    Pauline Joseph
  • Thanks Steve but I can't take any of the credit as I am just the messenger. I hesitate to name names as I would hate to leave someone out but I believe the thanks is owed to Pauline Joseph, Roberta Cowan, Jane Larke, Alan Ralph, Megan Whittle and Margaret Pember, ably co-ordianated and supported by Sigrid McCausland and Marian Hoy. Kate Walker, Alice-Anne Boylan and I gave 'back ground support'. Hopefully someone will let me know if I have missed someone out or misrepresented their input.

My hope is that as many people as possible will become aware of this docuement and that it will be used widely to the benefit of archives and archivists.
    Regards Margaret

PS And being a sandgroper myself I cannot help but notice the strong WA input to the project.
