Blogs and transcription

Kia ora koutou

Has anyone used a blogging platform as a quick and easy way to make transcripts of archival documents available online? Or do you know of any such blogs?

I'm working with a group of volunteers from our Friends organisation who are very much enjoying transcribing our many WW1 era diaries and letters. Right now we don't have a platform to make the transcripts available online, which the volunteers would dearly love for us to do. In due course we will develop something that will display the digitised document alongside the transcript but this is a little way off.

I'm the manager/editor of our main blog site, and initially thought of adding each transcript as a new page, but it's not pretty so I'm now thinking perhaps a completely separate site might be the way to go.

Any suggestions most welcome!

  • Thanks for the suggestion Jeni. SLNSW is certainly doing some great work, and that's the kind of thing we aspire to in the future. I've been playing with a magazine style blog layout and I'll share it here when it's available publicly.
