Part-time Engagement & Communications Officer, Contract

The ASA is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as a contractor supporting the ASA with its Member Engagement and Communications. The contractor will assist the Society in its communication and outreach with members and the wider community and marketing of products.

The role requires experience in communications and marketing with graphic design skills and experience in content creation an advantage. Archives or related information management qualifications would also be desirable but not essential.  We are looking for demonstrated initiative, strong communication skills and attention to detail.   

The contractor can be located anywhere within Australia with the individual willing to work remotely under the direction of the President and in co-operation with Councillors, volunteers and other contractors. The role requires extensive interaction by email and to a lesser extent telephone. The role will also require the individual to use the website back-end and social media platforms.

The chief areas of responsibility would be:

  • Member Newsletter: Provide editorial and graphic assistance with assembly of the monthly members e-newsletter, including related website content. Ensure monthly delivery of Newsletter to an agreed timetable.
  • Other member communications: Assist with other communications to members as required, such as updates on particular issues or notices to particular groups of members.
  • Website support: Create and update website content as required. Often in consultation with an ASA Councillor.
  • Social media: Play a co-ordinating role in receipt of appropriate and relevant topics and stories from social media and membership sources.
  • Marketing: Develop and implement marketing strategies for ASA products, including online courses, publications and the annual conference.
  • General: Play a proactive role in identifying topics, issues, stories and needs for communications where appropriate and suggest possible strategies to Council.

The contract will be on a fee for services basis to a maximum of 20 hours per week. Some flexibility of hours of service could be arranged. Payment would be upon receipt of a monthly invoice. The ASA would also reimburse reasonable expenses incurred in course of this work including work related transport and travel costs. Engagement would be for an initial 6 months commencing early 2019 with an option to renew if agreed between the parties.
