Hi All, I am in a lucky position that my company is currently building a dedicated archive centre.
Can anyone recommend an expansion estimation calculation that I might be able to use to calculate future expansion needs? Is there one that exists?
I have approximate measurement of the current collection, but this is from the past 100 years or so.
Any suggestions, recommendations or readings would be appreciated.
Kind regards,

Look at your accessioning figures - how many items have you added each year over the last few years, then multiple that by the space those items need and double it - that has seemed to work for me so far. If you use compactor shelving that will increase your storage shelf space by 2/3. But remember when you get a new storage space larger items will come in suddenly. Make sure your policies and heightened security are in place or others will see it as a place to store their excess. Have fun, it is great when it is finished I can assure you.
