Humidification System and Archive Manager

Hello, I am new to the ASA.  I am American and worked in corporate Archives there but  now living in Australia. I am the part-time Archivist at Kambala and the Archive of Australian Judaica at Sydney Uni. I have two questions to pose and hope this is the correct place to ask them.

1. what humidification system is everyone using? I have one small Archive room which is in need of a new system. I have a DeLonghi at the moment.

2. Has anyone created a "cheat sheet" for Archives Manager and how to perform basic functions like accessioning, reports, etc? I can not find any tutorials on-line. I

Thank you so much!

  • thank you, Clair.  I will be in touch!

  • I have also recently work out how to use Archive Manager through trial and error.
I would be happy to do a phone hook up to give you some tips.
  • Hi Laura,
I recently purchased 2 Inkbird data loggers to monitor the rooms in our archives. They were around $50 each and can bluetooth to your phone the readings. They are very easy to use. I would recommend using these to determine as Kay has said, if you actually need humidity control.
  • Thank you, Kay! You are awesome!

  • Thank you so much. I will give this a try.
  • Hello Laura,

We use Archive Manager 4.03.  It has information about basic entry to forms, searches, etc in the Help section (at the top of the Archive Manager screen).  If you are in any particular section of an entry form (eg, Accession Description, then if you hit Help and choose Contents from the drop-down list, then the Archive Manager Help window appears with information about the particular part of the form you are in - in the example of Accession Description, then the help for "Accession Edit" would be shown.

    I hope this is useful.

    Warm regards,

  • Hello Laura

While I can't help you with Archives Manager, I can certainly help with the environment of your Archive room. The smaller systems generally do not provide humidity control in the proper sense - rather they change the temperature which will affect the reading of the relative humidity, but the amount of moisture in the room will remain the same - it just won't be in the air. Depending on your room, where it is located, thickness of walls etc you may have an option of not requiring humidification or de-humidification at all. Do you know what the conditions regularly are in the Archive room? I am happy for you to give me a call, and we are just over in Annandale so very close to you at the University.
