The ICA Experts Group on Archival Description (EGAD) is seeking comment before 31 December 2016 on the initial draft of the first part of a two-part standard for archival description named Records in Contexts (RiC). When completed, the standard will include a conceptual model (RiC-CM), and a formal ontology (RiC-O). The goal is a unified model that allows for traditional description to continue while also allowing for new ways of description that leverage improved communication technologies, i.e.more complex and varied relationship graphs, to allow for a fuller description of the context of the records.
There has been some commentary on the archives google-groups listserv to date (12/9 to 6/10/16), with Adrian Cunningham providing a link to the ICA-EGAD discussion listserv: http://lists.village.virginia.edu/mailman/listinfo/ica-egad-ric
ASA Council is keen to hear more responses to the conceptual model as part of preparing a response. Post comments here or send directly to jmant@archivists.org.au – we’d appreciate your input.
