Blue Shield Australia Symposium January 2018

A range of exciting and interesting speakers have confirmed for the Symposium, to share their wisdom and expertise on cultural heritage, climate change and natural disasters.

  • Professor Eelco J Rowling, Research School of Earth Sciences, The Australian National University
  • Colin Long, Australian Council of Trade Unions’ Climate Action Group and the Global Advisory Group for Trade Unions for Energy Democracy
  • Lyndall Osborne, Executive Director of Collections at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS)
  • Sheridan Burke, President of the ICOMOS International Committee on Twentieth Century Heritage

 Workshops

There will be three workshops held on the afternoon of Monday 29 January 2018. 

The workshops will cost $60 each to attend (including Afternoon Tea). Places are limited so ensure you book early with your symposium registration to avoid disappointment.

Workshop 3: Disaster risk management for heritage places - assessing and managing disaster risks

Presenter: Robyn Riddett, ICOMOS

Tours

Tours to relevant and interesting sites around Canberra will be held on the morning of Monday 29 January 2018. Once again, numbers are limited so make sure you book early.  For more information regarding costs and times, please visit the symposium website Tours page. 

Mt Stromlo Tour

Join the Australian National University (ANU) Heritage Officer Amy Jarvis and ANU Project Manager Tim Borough on a walk and talk around the historic Mt Stromlo Observatory.

National Archives of Australia Tour

The tour will take you by bus to the National Archives of Australia, in Mitchell, Canberra.

There will also be tours of the National Library of Australia and the National Museum of Australia on the Monday morning, which are included in the Symposium registration. Both tours will be from 10.30am-12noon. Please indicate via the online form when you register if you wish to participate in either of these tours.
