The handwritten archives of natural history libraries – the diaries and correspondence of our early naturalists – are an invaluable resource for today’s scientists and historians. Yet, because of the nature of these archives and the way they are managed, they are hugely underutilised.

Join the Victorian Branch for a presentation and discussion, program as follows:

  • 5pm - drinks and nibbles
  • 5:30-6:30pm - presentation with questions/discussion
  • To be followed by informal drinks at a local venue

Speaker: Nicole Kearney coordinates the Australian component of the Biodiversity Heritage Library, the world's largest online repository of biodiversity literature and archival materials. Since 2014 she has been striving to turn Australia’s handwritten (read hidden) biological heritage into an online resource that is accessible, discoverable and, most importantly, searchable.
