This workshop is designed to provide practical, up-to-date tools and knowledge to help you manage your archival program. It will cover project management essentials, managing digital preservation programs in a business setting and a heritage collection setting, workflow demonstrations, updates on recent digital preservation conferences and initiatives, and wide-ranging discussion.

Archives and Records consultant and educator Judith Ellis will facilitate the workshop and lead discussion on project management for archivists. Sophie Shilling (Royal Historical Society of Victoria) and Jarrod Harvey (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) will lead discussion on practical digital preservation strategies and provide workflow demonstrations. This main technical session will be based around Sophie Shilling’s “Collecting and Preserving Digital Materials – A How-To Guide for Historical Societies”.

Afternoon sessions feature consultant Research Archivist Mike Jones who will lead discussion on business process optimisation for sustainable digital preservation, and Jaye Weatherburn, Data Stewardship Coordinator, University of Melbourne, who will reflect on recent digital preservation conferences and initiatives.

We can’t promise that you will become a digital preservation expert during this short workshop. We do aim to provide you with the knowledge to embark on your digital preservation journey with enthusiasm and confidence.

This is a catered event with morning tea and a light lunch provided.
