Advice from Disaster Masters: Collection planning and disaster preparedness: Lunchtime talk

The ACT Branch presents a lunchtime talk on Disasters!

Come along to hear Collection and Archive Disaster Masters share their wealth of advice and experience on how to prepare for the worst; aim for the best and; manage the real world experience of when disaster strikes.

Belinda will draw on her experiences at the National Archives in dealing with unexpected environmental challenges to protect the collection.

Peter will present on behalf of the Disaster ACT (DISACT) group of Canberra-based collection managers and conservators that meet regularly to discuss collection disaster preparedness and response. He will speak about disaster planning for collections.

Presenters

Belinda Hennessey has worked at National Archives of Australia for over 24 years. She joined the Archives’ in 1994 as a paper conservator and has since held roles as Manager Preservation, Manager Audiovisual Preservation, Manager Storage & Environments and Assistant Director Preservation. She is currently acting as the Director of the National Preservation Program at the National Archives of Australia.

Peter Appleton has worked in the museum & gallery field for over twenty years at cultural institutions including the National Museum of Ireland and the Queensland and Western Australian Museums. Since 2008 he’s worked in Canberra at the National Film & Sound Archive and the National Library. For the last five years he’s been the chair of the Disaster ACT (DISACT) group.
